HTML5 Suika Watermelon Game

Talking about Flash, Game development and Links.

Starting from this week, I’ll show you the new games I publish on triqui.com. I always try to pick games with interesting gameplay and in this post I’ll spend a couple of words from a PROgrammer point of view.

Stabilize!: this is the kind of Flash game I love: clean design, easy to play, no tutorials. Made probably with Box2D, it’s an interesting “don’t make stuff fall out of the screen” game.

What I liked: the concept

Programming difficulty: really easy, using Box2D… expecting a prototype soon. 1/5

Mummy Tombs: good BoxHead clone in an ancient Egypt background, with all needed features such as various enemy types, weapon shop with upgrades, and so on

What I liked: the background and the overall look… reminded me to mid 90’s arcade machines

Programming difficulty: scrolling, artificial intelligence, swapping depths, a lot of objects on stage… 4/5

Colorfill: I know it’s a Boomshine clone, but I like it anyway… almost the same game, peaceful music, soft colors…

What I liked: well… it’s Boomshine…

Programming difficulty: easy… just some math to determine collisions 1/5

Typo-Negative: an old concept with words falling of the screen and you trying to destroying them by typing them.

What I liked: clean graphics, powerup activation by typing their names

Programming difficulty: really easy 1/5

Butterfly Paradise: one of the most original concepts I saw this week… a lot of butterflies flying, you have to click on three of them to make a triangle area, then move it with fans and capture as much butterflies as you can by trapping them into the triangle. Nice graphichs and music.

What I liked: the concept

Programming difficulty: interesting use of trigonometry to draw flower lines, quite realistic simulation of the randomness of butterflies path, cool fan simulation. 3/5

Helio Adventures: the classic “ball” game which sees you tapping on keys to make a ball fly, avoid deadly obstacles and collect objects. What makes it interesting is the late 80’s arcade look & feel.

What I liked: the graphics

Programming difficulty: the concept has been discussed in my first Flash game tutorial1/5

R.I.P.: another really original concept with a great Halloween theme. Ghosts are sliding down ropes, and you must arrange such ropes by cutting them or adding strings between them to create paths leading ghosts to their tombstones.

What I liked: the concept

Programming difficulty: great ropes simulation, 3/5

Spin the black circle II: a classic game involving physics and a rotating environment you must turn in order to bring a ball to the goal

What I liked: the graphics, level design

Programming difficulty: not that hard to make with Box2D, 2/5

Shadez 2: Battle for Earth: Incredible real time strategy game with side view seeing you building facilities, gathering resources, training troops… with humans versus machines, reminded me a Terminator world… the best game this week

What I liked: the whole game

Programming difficulty: ehm… 5/5

Colour Bugs: trap bugs drawing a lasso around them. Addictive drawing game.

What I liked: I always like drawing games

Programming difficulty: lasso area management is never that easy… 3/5

And that’s it for this week, I hope you liked the idea of showing you the best games released with my two cents about them.
