Talking about Contests, Game development, HTML5 and Javascript.
Ok, we all know you can create awesome games using HTML5 frameworks like Phaser and CocoonJS, but what are you able to do with pure JavaScript?
This is the main question behind the js13kGames competition.
Js13kGames is a JavaScript coding competition for HTML5 Game Developers. The fun part of the compo is the file size limit set to 13 kilobytes. The competition will start at 13:00 CEST, 13th August and end at 13:00 CEST, 13th September 2015. Theme for 2015 will be announced the day the competition will start.
With only 13KB available, it’s impossible to use any framework since even the simplest is way bigger.
And that’s what makes the competition really interesting, you are forced to code in pure JavaScript, line by line, doing everything from scratch.
Will you try to create eye-candy effects or will you focus on game design keeping anything else as minimal as possible?
I really want to see the entries of this competition, meanwhile let me talk about the prizes: there is a lot of stuff which will help you to make awesome HTML5 games, starting from Box2D plugin for Phaser to Impact JS game engine, with really A LOT of other prizes, including 10 copies of my From null to full HTML5 cross platform game mini book.
I am really proud to contribute to this contest, and being able to give some copies of my book is one of the advantages of writing a book on your own rather than writing for a publisher.
I would never be able to give such an amount of copies if I were writing under a publisher.
Before I send you to the official contest page for all competition details, I am announcing I am about to release a free update to my mini book, and a second mini book is under development, and will explain you everything about match three games.
Now, start to experiment with pure JavaScript, I will publish some tutorials during these days.
Never miss an update! Subscribe, and I will bother you by email only when a new game or full source code comes out.
